United Airlines has announced that starting December 16, 2010, it will begin seasonal non-stop service between San Francisco and Mammoth Lakes, California. United will fly one daily round-trip flight during the winter until late April.

This is great news for San Francisco and Bay Area skiers and snowboarders, who in the past were faced with two choices: make the long drive to one of Lake Tahoe's several ski resorts, or drive to San Jose and then board a plane to Mammoth.

With daily service to Mammoth Lakes and a flight time of about one hour, they now have easy access to Mammoth Mountain, arguably the best ski and snowboard mountain West of the Rockies!

The new daily non-stop flights leave San Francisco at 3:50pm and arrive in Mammoth at 4:56pm. Return flights leave Mammoth Yosemite Airport at 5:27pm daily and arrive at SFO at 6:40pm.

Reservations can be made through the airlines (United, operated by SkyWest).

Horizon Airlines will also continue to offer daily non-stop flights to Mammoth Lakes from both Los Angeles and San Jose. See below for a Winter schedule (after Nov. 6) of LAX-Mammoth and San Jose-Mammoth flights operated by Horizon Airlines:
