Fishing in the Mammoth Lakes Area

Only one word is necessary when trying to describe fishing in the High Sierras: legendary. Every year anglers from all over the world visit Mammoth Lakes and the Eastern Sierra's abundant lakes and streams. The beautiful scenery, combined with moderate summer temperatures and prolific fishing waters make Mammoth Lakes and the surrounding area every angler's dream.

Fishing season in the Eastern Sierra and Mammoth Lakes starts the last Saturday in April and ends on November 15th of every year. However, anglers can catch and release fish the following areas year-round:

  • The Upper Owens River above the Benton Bridge to Big Springs
  • The East Walker River below Bridgeport Reservoir
  • Hot Creek

Anglers 16 years of age and older must have a fishing license. You can purchase an annual, one-day or two-day fishing license (valid for two consecutive calendar days). Information concerning license requirements, places to purchase and fees maybe obtained from the < a href="http://cdfgnews.wordpress.com/2011/04/26/dfg-makes-fishing-licenses-easy-to-purchase-for-anglers-at-bishop-trout-opener">Department of Fish & Game or by calling 760-934-2664.
