Winter recreation is centered around Mammoth Mountain, one of the country's largest resorts, with an elevation of 11,054 feet, a vertical drop of 3,100 feet, 3,500 skiable acres and 150 trails. Skiers and snowboarders from around the world visit Mammoth Mountain for the diversity of terrain (25% beginner, 40% intermediate, 35% advanced), snowboarding features (8 terrain parks and numerous half pipes up to 22 feet), incredible snowfall (over 400 inches annually) and weather (300 days of sunshine).
Mammoth Mountain is typically open from mid November through May, although it is not unusual for skiers to find open lifts up until the 4th of July. The longest season on record is 10 months in 1994-95, when the mountain was open from October to August.
Mammoth Mountain has three base lodges, Main Lodge, Canyon Lodge and Eagle Lodge, all which provide beginner access to the mountain.
